The Dallas Elite kicked off the 2019 season in the Women's Football Alliance against the Comal County Camo with a 42-0 victory. Both teams had plenty of adversity to overcome with the cold, rain, and wind blowing practically sideways across the field. Several Dallas Elite players made their women's football debut and had tremendous success in their first outing.
Leading the charge for the Dallas Elite, QB Sarah Gomez started the season with 8/15, 129 and three touchdowns while throwing no interceptions. Receivers Rachel King, Dez Allen, and Anna Kraft all scored touchdowns on receptions from Gomez who spread the ball to different receivers throughout the evening.
Running back Kesz Wesley lit up the scoreboard with an additional 3 touchdowns and 118 yards rushing on 8 carries. Makayla Witcher added 28 yards and had some shifty runs against the Camo. Dartania Jackson found herself standing in the end zone after a tremendous run only to be called back for a holding penalty.
Defensively, the Dallas Elite did not allow any points and barely allowed any yardage. After playing a little tight on the first drive and missing some plays, they began to loosen up and play fast. The defense recovered four fumbles led by Kim Sanders with two recoveries. Hassa Weatherd and Arianna Kinchen added a fumble recovery each. Mo Kirk grabbed another on special teams.
Tackling was led by Hassa Weatherd who also scored a safety late in the first half. Arianna Kinchen tied her in tackles and seemed to be all over the field making plays. DeVon Goldsmith and Alexias Stricklin made their presence known tracking down players and blitzing often.
One of the many highlight plays of the game occurred in the first half after the Elite had scored a touchdown and were going for the extra point. After a botched snap, Dez Allen attempted to throw the ball to a receiver, but it was intercepted. The Camo player had nothing but green in front of her and looked to be a cinch for a score. Kicker Sarah Gomez and receiver Anna Kraft decided that wasn't going to happen. Both players did not give up and chased down the runner. Anna Kraft ended up knocking away a blocker and catching the ball carrier. The never give up attitude and determination were obvious in their actions and represent the best attributes of the Dallas Elite.
The next game for the Dallas Elite is against the Houston Power in Houston on April 20, 2019. The Dallas Elite is a Division 1 team in the Women's Football Alliance.
